| Comfort | Because teak is so durable it never splinters, so it not only looks great, it feels great too!
| Because spruce is soft it is not very durable: it splinters quickly and is easily damaged. | Becomes uncomfortable to walk on in bare feet when hot. |
| Finish | Unstained teak has a varied grain that gives it a warm, natural look for a distinctive Zen décor.
Adjoining vertical and horizontal slats gives tiles a contemporary look.
The stainless steel screws attaching the teak slats to the plastic framework are invisible because they are screwed in from underneath. This means no water can penetrate the wood.
| Additional costs after purchase.
Usually requires painting or staining after installation.
No environmental benefits.
Nails or screws are installed from above. This is unsightly and also weakens the wood since it allows water infiltration.
| Choice of colours Can be used to create patterns.
Looks cold, artificial.

| Maintenance | Easy: simply spray with teak oil and the wood looks like new. | High-maintenance: must be at least partially restained and/or repainted every season. | Low-maintenance |

| Plastic framework | The underlying plastic framework is pure genius! It is reinforced for greater durability, and raised to facilitate air circulation and drainage. The space between the existing surface and the tile prevents the wood from becoming water-logged and significantly extends the life of the product.
Air circulation and drainage mean the tiles can be installed on top of any type of existing floor surface: concrete, paving stone, wood, ceramic, etc.

Installation
| Very “DIY’. Save time and money by laying the tiles yourself: A 150-sq. ft surface can be covered in less than one hour.
Air circulation and drainage mean the tiles can either be laid on top of existing flooring or directly on the ground.
Tiles can easily be cut to fit the surface to be covered and/or to create a rounded perimeter
| Final cost per square foot is high.
Installing directly onto the existing surface is not recommended.
Additional hardware (screws and nails for treated wood, deck blocks, etc.) means additional costs.
Requires hiring specialized labour.
